East Jakarta Administration Mayor Promotes Batu Penggilingan Festival as Platform for Cultural Preservation and Local Growth

JakartaHits.id — East Jakarta Administrative City Mayor Munjirin called for the Batu Penggilingan Festival to serve as a platform for preserving cultural heritage while supporting local economic activity as the fourth edition of the event was held in Penggilingan, Cakung District, East Jakarta, on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

Munjirin attended Batu Penggilingan IV on Jalan Kali Buaran in Penggilingan Village, Cakung District, underscoring the East Jakarta Administration’s efforts to preserve local culture and encourage economic opportunities for residents.

In his remarks, Munjirin said the festival was more than a ceremonial or entertainment event and represented an opportunity to introduce, protect and preserve cultural heritage and historical values rooted in community life.

“Festival ini juga menjadi ruang untuk mempererat silaturahmi, membangun kebersamaan serta membuka kesempatan bagi masyarakat untuk mengembangkan berbagai potensi baik di bidang budaya, seni, ekonomi kreatif, UMKM (Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah) maupun pariwisata,” katanya.

He expressed appreciation to the organizing committee and all parties involved in staging the fourth festival, urging residents to use the event to preserve culture, strengthen social cohesion and contribute to the area’s future development.

“Mari jadikan Festival Batu Penggilingan IV ini sebagai momentum untuk melestarikan budaya, memperkuat persatuan dan membangun masa depan bersama,” ungkapnya.

Munjirin also symbolically presented prizes to winners of a marching competition involving Public Infrastructure and Public Facilities Handling Officers, known locally as PPSU. The event was followed by a tree-planting activity along the Kali Buaran riverbank with Cakung District Head Rohmad and DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives Commission B member Syahroni as part of efforts to improve the area’s green environment.

The festival was also attended by Indonesian House of Representatives Commission IX member Surya Utama, known as Uya Kuya; DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives Commission E member Astrid Kuya; Commission C member Ismail; and Penggilingan Village Head Boval Juliansyah, along with village heads from across Cakung District.

Syahroni said the fourth Batu Penggilingan Festival was deliberately organized with a different focus from the previous edition. While last year’s activities centered on river management, this year’s program included a PPSU marching competition aimed at promoting discipline and a waste-sorting competition involving 17 neighborhood units, known as RTs, in RW 07.

“Selain kegiatan lomba kami juga menyediakan UMKM, sebanyak 30 UMKM hadir dan bisa berjualan serta memperoleh penghasilan meningkatkan perekonomian keluarga, dan perekonomian warga Kelurahan Penggilingan,” ungkapnya.

The festival therefore combined cultural activities with community competitions, environmental initiatives and opportunities for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to sell products, with organizers positioning the event as a vehicle for both cultural preservation and neighborhood economic activity
